A feature I wrote a while ago about Australian super chef Kylie Kwong got published recently in the German Vital magazine. The food editor had the great idea to publish a series of women who are passionate about food and also business women. I think Kylie with her undeniable passion for sharing the pleasures of food and provenance whilst supporting sustainable thinking is a perfect match. Kylie Kwong is still selling her famous Chinese pancakes and dumplings at the Eveleigh Market on Saturday to a growing number of fans. If you don't feel like getting up early (although I think it's the perfect start into the weekend), Kylie also now has a new Yum Cha menu on the weekend.

Matakana Farmers' Market
The Farmers' market in Matakana (NZ) is one of the cutest little markets I have seen so far. It's in the countryside up north not far from Auckland. It runs every Saturday from 8am to 1pm the and is a focal point
for locals and city slickers, and growers to meet. You'll find produce from the area – fruit and vegetables, delicious home baking and
Italian-style sausages, organic chocolate, fine wines and
boutique olive oils, locally-brewed beer and the all-important morning
coffee and live music as an accompaniment. Also a plus is the beautiful village feel, it kind of feels the time stands still. Even if the market is bustling there is always a little nook to just sit down and relax while enjoying a snack and the live music. Only at this market did I see crepes being serves on leaves instead of paper plates - that is proper organic thinking!
The market displays a great mix of fresh produce and home-made goods. The live music adds extra charm to the atmosphere.
Shop, smell, taste and enjoy. The market is a great day out for your senses.
Oh, aren't these roses wonderful?

Eveleigh Farmers Market
I have been to many farmers markets in Sydney but my absolute favourite is the Eveleigh Market that happens every Saturday between 8am to 1pm at Carriage Works. Not only is the site truly special it also is very spacious and you'll get everything here. Flowers, mushrooms (no Pfifferlinge though), nice bread from Sonoma Bakery, veggies, meat, cheese, bagels and even music!
If you feel you need a break or done with your grocery shopping go and get a nice cup of coffee from the Carriage Works Cafe and just relax and soak up the atmosphere. If you didn't manage to have breakfast before heading to the markets there is a lot to sample but I recommend the Chinese pancake and/or dumplings from celebrity chef Kylie Kwong. As usual you have to nicely queue up for her food but at least it's not as bad as it is in front of her restaurant in Surry Hills.
Sehr lecker!

Fräulein Schlecker's"Stollen" at the market
I went to the Orange Grove Market in Lilyfied (more pictures on Flickr) where under the moniker of "Fräulein Schlecker" I shared a stand with Boris from Cologne who has been acquiring local fame with his tasty German sausages at his stall called "Hans Wurst". I sold Stollen which is a German Christmas speciality. When it is getting cold and wintery in good ol Europe, Germans like to stay at home and start baking for Advent and Christmas with candles lit. On the Advent weekends you gather family and friends and simply have a snuggly Sunday afternoon. Even though Stollen is a traditional Christmas treat it was very well received at the market. It is so yummy that you can basically enjoy it all year round ... especially at teatime. Additionally, I baked and decorated baby cupcakes in order to promote my customized wedding -, corporate cakes, cupcakes and figurines. I got a very good response and all baby cupcakes (especially the ones with pink hearts) sold quickly. Next time I will definitely make more of those!

Fräulein Schlecker hits the market
"Fräulein Schlecker", that is Petra (Swiss) and me (German) baking Christmas cookies and Stollen like maniacs to bring a bit of Swiss and German Christmas tradition to Sydney. We ate loads of them ourselves (Hüftgold = hip gold) but also managed to sell quite a bit at the Balmain market during the December Saturdays before Christmas. The Sydneysiders and Expats from Switzerland and Germany must have enjoyed our work: each time we sold out very quickly and had a lot of fun!
